What is simultaneous interpreting?

In this type of interpreting, the interpreter translates the speaker’s words simultaneously (though with a slight delay), allowing the audience to follow the speaker in real time.

The interpreter is usually in a soundproof booth, hears the speaker’s voice through headphones and speaks into a microphone; the audience hears the interpreter’s voice through a receiver connected to earphones or headphones.

Interpreters usually work in pairs, taking turns every twenty to thirty minutes or so, as this is a highly mentally demanding task.

This type of interpreting is suitable for formal settings or situations where a fast pace is required (conferences, meetings with rapid, alternating contributions, etc.).

How does simultaneous interpreting work?

01

Briefing

The client sends the event program, the topics covered, and the available materials. We agree on terms and fees.

02

Terminology Preparation

I develop a dedicated technical glossary, study the presentations, and research the industry and the scheduled speakers.

03

Booth Interpreting

During the event, I work in a soundproof booth, translating the speakers’ speeches in real time for the audience.
